Otter Bend Farm grew out of a long-held dream to spend more time outdoors and work closely with the land. After many years in the corporate world as a CPA and CFO, I decided to follow that dream and begin building a small flower farm here in Altavista.

Lynn and I moved to the farm on Christmas Eve in 2019, after almost three years of enjoying the land and dreaming of living here full time.

From the beginning, the land felt like a place where nature was already thriving — wildlife, open fields, trees, native plants, and the quiet hum of honeybees working among the wildflowers. The honeybee hives made it here before we did, but we knew we wanted to do more with the land — to improve its health and support the wildlife that already called it home. That desire led us to the idea of growing flowers.

Flowers felt like the perfect fit. They bring beauty and joy into people’s lives while also supporting pollinators and the surrounding ecosystem. At Otter Bend Farm, we grow seasonal flowers using organic practices designed to improve the soil and create a healthy habitat for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

Today the farm grows seasonal blooms that are shared through our self-serve farm cart, bouquet subscriptions, and local pickups. Each bouquet reflects what is blooming in the field that week and is harvested by hand right here at the farm.

We’re grateful to share the beauty of the farm with our community and hope our flowers bring a little joy into your home.
