The First Zinnia Has Bloomed

The first zinnia has finally bloomed.

This blush beauty was the first to open, and there are pink, orange, and purple buds not far behind. Each first bloom opens a new chapter on the farm.

In a few weeks, these will be the flowers adding color to tables and brightening someone's day.

It feels a little odd not to be seeing flowers until late July, but I planted a little later this year after rearranging some of the beds. Even without armfuls of blooms, there's been no shortage of work. Most days have been spent watering, planting, weeding, and helping everything stay healthy through the summer heat.

Right now it's a sea of green, with hints of what's to come. The dahlias are stretching taller each week, and the tuberose are beginning to send up flower spikes. I grow tuberose as much for their fragrance as their blooms, and I can't wait to share them with you.
